Not just those motivational posters or corporate feminist taglines, which are all just pseudo-progressive marketing techniques without any real meaning. For me, my female friends have been my coven of safety, my haven of love during the darkest days. Escaping to another coastal city, Chennai, took me back to childhood days and clean beaches--moments and memories that should have nothing to do with the love I lost in Bombay. And still, it followed me. These poems witness the inescapable persistence of heartache, one that stubbornly sticks even during self-imposed exiles.
