The Bombay Poetry Crawl

i founded The Bombay Poetry Crawl in order to preserve, promote, and explore the works of 20th century bombay poets. i use this space to bring the city to life, verse by verse and step by step, by taking people on poetry walks inspired by the works of the famous ‘bombay poets’. this allows me to be an archivist, researcher, urban planner, tour guide, and poet – all in one.

THE COLD WAR POETRY CRAWL FOR @kgafest 2026! 🗞️🗞️🗞️FEBRUARY 2026 WITH THE BOMBAY POETRY CRAWL - SAVE THE DATES NOW! 🗞️🗞️🗞️ As @arundhathisubramaniam wrote in Poetry International, “The poetry of Imtiaz Dharker has travelled an interesting path – from the trauma of cultural exile and alienation to a celebration of unsettlement as settlement; from an anguished indictment of purdah where 'the body finds a place to hide” to a defiant removal of the 'black veil of faith/ that made me faithless to myself” and the 'lacy things/ that feed dictator dreams'. An accomplished artist and documentary filmmaker, she is an important presence in the world of Indian poetry in English. Episode Ten: Pooja’s Bombay january in crawls 🌠 marking Narayan Surve’s centenary at Lokvangmay Griha was nothing short of magical. we honoured the first editor of the publishing house with a Kaavyasandhya that felt, like Udit said, sort of like a Quaker meeting. audience members stood up when they felt like it and read their favourite Surve poems. also we had the honour of hosting Ramdas Bhatkal kaka - swipe to see him speak about his days with Surve, publishing, and poetry. what a special night hosted with @dastangoakshay ☀️ Podcast Episode Ten: @thoughtsofmadrasi’s Bombay scenes from this month’s kavi katta. the theme was Bekhauf, and some poets we read were Bharathiyar, Mangesh Padgaonkar, Audre Lorde… Registration link in bio!
